SebastiAn (ruined by Marx) and Destroy Disco..

Living in a temporary bubble of Marx's philosophical thought has played havoc with my mind and my musical life. Not to mention I shouted lots at his 1844 Manuscripts, like actually at the page, and then at certain lovely new man in my life. If you are trying to seduce someone may I suggest not showing the pages of work you read and wrote 'FUCK OFF!' down the side of as an attempt at notes.

So, whatever, I've totally missed all the recent bandwagon's. This is coming to you late and carefully considered...

SebastiAn, I always thought, would have to try pretty hard to fall out of my good books. The sun is shining, which is great for most, but I'm far from fucking impressed. I have a cold cup of coffee. I need to produce nearly 3,000 words before lunchtime. Give the new SebastiAn track a whirl I thought, it'll make everything seem a whole lot nicer.

Noise. And I like it noisy. But I'm sat not feeling it. Legs tingle. It is probably not fair to judge with my rubbishy computer speaker, so out come the beautiful headphones. Toes start to curl. I'm still sitting on the fence. Hands are so tight my nails are in the palms of my hand. Owww! Then I realise. Fuck! It is actually great. My body is nearly tensing every muscle just to make the point to my brain.

And we can blame Marx for the not having realised sooner.

"..If you wish to exercise an influence on other men, you must be a man who has a really stimulating and encouraging effect on other men.."

And for good measure. Lets get a fucking excellent retro remix of my very gorgeous dream woman..

Kylie - 2 Hearts (Destroy Disco remix) [via YouSendIt for 7 days]

Easily my favourite remix of that song. Apparently you can hear me coming when I have my headphones on with that playing. Bleeps translate well, I reckon. I must say I'm fairly partial to the work of Destroy Disco. Go have a listen and shake some body parts.

Das Pop

Really. Just really. How great are Das Pop? There must be a parallel universe that my brain has been inhabiting for me to have only recently come across this wonderful Belgian electro-pop band. Thrashing in parts and subtle in others. They'll make you fall in love even on the bleakest of days in the grimmest of times.

And what will you fall in love with? Other than Das Pop themselves? Well, the way Tired makes you feel, bloody, God-damn everything!

Here is my very favoured SebastiAn remix of a track of theirs.

Another BA Hons degree after this one? I must be mad.

SebastiAn leak..

Oooo!

Look at the work-in-progress that Missing Toof found.

That is going to be yummy dropped in a set. Yes, fucking yummy, alright?

Calvin Harris

My thoughts on these are going to be given chronologically backwards. Just because that is how I feel. Yes, backwards.

Having had a lengthy drive home, which involved a wrong turn at Leeds and a tour of the city, I got home from London, picked up my man and got ready for a casual night at Empire to see Calvin Harris, the super-new pop-electro sensation.

A few tipples were consumed and then it was to Empire. Which was £10 in. I wasn't impressed, infact I think I exclaimed rather loudly "Fuck me! Ten pounds! Jesus Christ!" before being pushed into the club.

SebastiAn - Walkman was played before 11:30pm. How incredibly silly.

Calvin Harris appeared and, like, about 4 other people, which to me seemed excessive, you know, its not like he is reproducing a big sound. They looked a bit bewildered at first and then kind of fell into what seemed to be something that was very run-of-the-mill to them, i.e. performing.

Having had my image of Calvin Harris's live performance shattered on TV and then listening to the album (admittedly on MySpace, the worst way to listen to an album) I was genuinely hoping that the gig would reaffirm any reason I'd liked him.

But it was just as formulaic live as I thought it would be.

The only songs standing out at all being the obvious Acceptable In The 80's and The Girls, probably because they are used to getting a good response for those and they actually react to the crowd. But also what I am assuming will be the next single Vegas. And that only really stood out as it was the final song of the set and you could quite comfortably sing the lyrics for Acceptable In The 80's, same formula, same hook, same rehashed idea.

I was willing it to be good and it just didn't seem to happen.

Streetlife DJ's were fun though. Played some great tracks. And I've stayed for that if it wasn't for the odd and frankly quite unsettling mix of people in Empire.

They seriously need to think about how they handle these Friday nights. It's such a fucking beautiful venue. It'd be a shame to fuck it up.

Phew!!

Someone else said what I had been thinking.

"Much as i'd love to go 'here's the SebastiAn remix of Rage Against the Machine, it's AMAZING'.... I won't. Because it's absolutely fucking dreadful." Headphone Sex

I second Headphone Sex.

(A great blog, actually.)

Touch yourself..

This is exciting..

SebastiAn and others..

I have an incredible soft spot for SebastiAn. A major feature of my compilation CD's last year was the work of this guy. And I've just got the latest offering, Greel. But my sound quality of it is so poor that I think its fucking with the disortion of the bass because there is so much distortion due to the poor sound quality. However, aside from the unfavourable sound quality the track itself is in as dark and warping a feel as ever and just another wonderful achievment to add to SebastiAn's working.

Mr Oizo has another few little offerings on the latest Ed Banger compilation CD. Patrick122 will make your head spin. Mine did. With envy of that clear-cut, undeniable ability. It sounds absolutely effortless. He takes the idea of pausing to awesome levels. So perfectly crisp you feel the overhang in your stomach.

Get these listened to.. Fucking now.. Get ready.. It's an absolute imperitive.. Ocelot are from the US and going to take the world by storm. They are making a couple of appearences over there at some awesome events that are packed with some of the best electro, techno artists, producers and DJ's. But find it yourself. I'm too jealous of anyone with the opportunity of going to help you out with a link!
